Dear friend,
I hope you’re doing well! I’m reaching out to remind you that voting for the next King County Executive–the leader of our state’s largest local government–begins now. Ballots have been mailed out and, in order for your vote to be counted, you must return your ballot by August 5th.
I also wanted to let you know that, in this election, I have decided to support Girmay Zahilay, and I hope you will too.
Here’s why:
Girmay is committed to tackling the housing crisis, ensuring public safety, expanding behavioral health services, and building a thriving economy for all.
Girmay has a unique understanding of the challenges that King County is facing. He came to the U.S. as a refugee at age 3, grew up in public housing, and experienced homelessness as a child. Those experiences fuel his deep commitment to solving our region’s toughest challenges, and they allow him to co-design solutions with the communities most impacted.
Girmay also has the track record, skills, vision, and experience needed to lead King County forward. His background includes being a business attorney at the top law firms in the country, founding a nonprofit to serve youth, and advancing anti-poverty policy. He holds degrees from Stanford University and the UPenn Law School, and worked in the Obama White House.
Today, he is one of the most effective leaders in our state. He currently serves on the Sound Transit Board and is the unanimously elected Chair of the King County Council, where he has formed broad coalitions to pass legislation expanding crisis care centers, raising the minimum wage, and funding thousands of affordable homes near public transit.
His track record of collaboration is reflected in his endorsements. He has earned the support of electeds across the democratic spectrum, from Congressman Adam Smith to Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal. He has endorsements from heavy-hitters like Governor Bob Ferguson and State Attorney General Nick Brown. He’s also the only King County Executive candidate endorsed by Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates, The Alliance for Gun Responsibility, and The Stranger.
This is the first time in 16 years that King County will have a new Executive. We can’t afford to miss this opportunity to elect a leader who meets the moment with urgency and effectiveness.
