A Partner for the People
In November of 2019, you helped me win a seat on the King County Council. I cannot thank you enough for that. Back then, we could have never predicted the unprecedented events of 2020 and 2021. But despite these challenges, I can safely say our region has risen to the moment and accomplished some amazing things.

With the community leading the way, my office has been able to secure major systemic and transformational victories that will be felt for generations to come.

Here are just a few of our wins in Year 1 of public office:

✅ Created a $2 million community-based gun violence prevention program

✅ Invested tens of millions of dollars in Skyway for a community center, affordable housing, and transit; and advanced the Skyway subarea plan to promote services in this neighborhood while protecting residents from gentrification

✅ Identified and then transferred underutilized public land and buildings to community organizations for housing and facilities. One example of this initiative is the Youth Achievement Center, a proposed housing and resource center developed in collaboration with community-based organizations for the benefit of underserved and unhoused youth in South Seattle

✅ Spearheaded a new vision for public safety by proposing and passing Charter Amendment 6, which will allow King County to invest in public health and community-based alternatives to traditional policing

✅ Co-sponsored the Health through Housing proposal, legislation that will provide permanent, supportive housing for thousands of chronically unhoused people
✅ Provided COVID-19 economic and health relief by co-sponsoring passing relief packages with rental assistance, food vouchers, mobile testing, and mask distributions to tens of thousands in King County

✅ Protected renters by passing legislation for renters who can’t afford to pay rent due to financial impacts of the pandemic

✅ Promoted digital equity by funding internet services for marginalized communities

✅ Passed the Mi’Chance Dunlap-Gittens Youth Rights Ordinance, a community-led initiative that gives young people under 18 the right to a public defender when being asked to waive their Miranda Rights by police

✅ Educated the community through various workshops on budget and other King County functions

✅ Supported small businesses through small business grants

I am so incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together in my first year, but we’re just getting started and I need your support to ensure we are able to continue our work in bringing positive change to King County.

Please consider contributing $25, $50, $100, or $250 at electgirmay.com/donate, so we can continue our efforts to make King County a place where everyone is able to thrive.

Thank you all so much for your support over the last year. Serving the very district where I was raised has truly been a blessing and the greatest privilege of my life. I am honored to be a part of this fight for positive change in our region.

Sincerely,
P.S. Please continue to stay safe and healthy, and follow all recommended public health guidelines. The latest guidance can always be found at publichealthinsider.com.
Endorsements
WE'VE BEEN BACKED BY EVERY DEMOCRATIC ORGANIZATION THAT ENDORSES IN THIS RACE
Last month, Girmay stood up in front of a packed room at the 37th District Democrats endorsement meeting and shared his vision for King County’s future. Dozens of first-time attendees and newly engaged community members came out to the meeting, sending a message that a new generation and new segments of Seattle’s population are eager to make their voices heard.

We were honored to secure the sole endorsement of the 37th District Democrats in a 108-45 vote. Every local District Democrats group that has completed their endorsement process so far has backed our campaign, and we are grateful for this incredible showing of support.
